Even though we lost, this was a fun game to play. 8-7 in softball is a very respectable score. We matched up against Pizza Luce very well, it's to bad we only got to play them once! If you have some game highlights you'd like to re-live via posting to the blog, please do so.
So team business: the end of year shindig has been switched to Sunday, August 2nd. Betsy will be sending out more info soon. We also have end of the year awards to do. I'll be talking to Pat, so expect an e-mail with instructions.
There's been some talk of trying to find an actual sponsor for next season; if you have any ideas or know of someone who wants to sponsor us, please pass the info along. The league fee is approx. $450. I've heard a couple of possibilities, but the more options, the more likely the cost for us will go down.
Otherwise, great season Brewers!!! Expect the e-mails mentioned above soon. Time to go to bed.

Practice Sunday!
Lets have a practice Sunday 7/19 at 1:00. I'd like to see as many people there as possible. See if we can shake this slump.
Vs. Merrill Lynch
Well, they were a different team than we played in week one. With different players and everything. A little disappointing, but not without highlights:
- Jake's home run, in which he caught up to Carrie
- Noah catching up to Rachel on his double
- Several double plays, for and against us
Only one game left. Let's give Pizza Luce our best shot.

July 14 game?? Post season party?
So I am hearing mixed feelings about the Bastille Day game with Merrill Lynch... What's the word on it from everyone else?
Next on the agenda - after the make-up game - is the after-season party. Mike and I are willing to host, but we can't do it the weekend of July 25th. How about August 1?? Maybe a whiffle-ball game at Hancock after bbq and brews??

A valiant effort...
Well, we may have lost... but it was fun. Tonight was one of those nights, they kept hitting it where we weren't. Top defensive plays that come to mind off the top of my head:
There will be no practice this weekend since most of the people the usually come to them are out of town. Have a wonderful week.
- Noah catching the deep fly ball
- Molly going back and snagging a pop-up
- Rachel and Mr. J plucking multiple pop-ups out of the air
- I'm sure there's more, but than they would not be off the top of my head

Injury of the month: The Head
Hi, Brewers! I understand that not everyone is concerned about being injured during the game as I am. Maybe it's because I am the clumsiest person alive, or maybe it's because I spent 5 yrs of my life doing nothing other than teaching American Red Cross CPR & First Aid -- in any event, I think it's important for all of us to have enough information to make our own personal decisions about our health and the health of our teammates. In light of last night's game, I thought I'd pass on some information, courtesy of Mayo Clinc and the Brain Injury Center. : )
...That raises this often perplexing question: "When should a head injury involve a trip to the emergency room?”
Steps to take: For anything other than the most superficial injury, at least call the doctor, observe the victim carefully and report all symptoms. Such symptoms include: sleeping more than usual, or becomes difficult to wake up, clear fluid or blood coming from the nose, ears or mouth.
Additional symptoms to report include: nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, vacant or dazed expression, loss of consciousness, seizures, lethargy, irritability, swelling, bruising, bleeding and memory loss may be signs of a serious problem. Most such symptoms surface within 36 hours.
Ask the doctor what to do if the victim's symptoms change, and, ask where the doctor can be reached during the next 36 hours.
The emergency number "911" should be called and the victim should be kept warm if he or she:
1. Is unconscious. 2. Has an arm or leg in an unusual position. 3. Complains of neck or back pain.
When to see a doctorWhile most concussions get better on their own, some blows to the head can cause more-serious injuries.
Seek medical advice if you have any of the following symptoms:
Prolonged headache or dizziness
Vision or eye disturbances, including pupils that are bigger than normal (dilated pupils) or pupils of unequal sizes
Nausea or vomiting
Impaired balance
Prolonged memory loss
Ringing in the ears
Loss of smell or taste

Vs. Marty's Bar Recap
I hope everyone had a good time last night. We played very well and held one of the best teams in the league to only one big inning.
Highlights included:
Debbie throwing off the mask to make a Mauer-like catch in foul territory.
Jake handling probably the hardest hit grounder of the season in the first inning.
Jenny's two RBI triples.
Pete's almost-home-run.
Sterling defense by our Ps.
Debbie's beer bringing.
Lowlights included:
A weird, lumpy infield.
A weird, lumpy outfield.
Terrible lighting.
One of your co-managers jumping out of the way of a ground ball.

Betsy asked the important question
Where is Marty's Bar
I quipped "pick and @$$ end of St. Paul." For that I must apologize.

Good game...
Brewers, fun game tonight... true we didn't win, but like I said at the field, and I quote: "The game was a lot closer than the score shows." Highlights I'm sure will be posted in a day or two... Pat has the score book.

The Good News
Having beaten the other two teams with 3-3 records, we stand alone in 5th place. We're right behind, you guessed it, Team Calamity.
And for the rest of our season we'll be playing two teams with records of 5-1 or better, and four teams with records of 1-5 or worse.
Fearless prediction: We'll finish the season 7-5.
(Keep up-to-date on the standings with the easy link on the right-hand navigation bar.)

Game
Yes, we got whooped. I think it was 29-7. But, no, it wasn't as bad as all that. Aside from our old-school Brewers first inning, after which it was 13-0, we were not terrible the rest of the way (16-7 over the next four innings). There were some individual highlights, however, which will be summed up when I get home and take a look at the scorebook.
Perhaps this was our karmic softball retribution for destroying The Senators last week after complaining about every team that's ever 10-runned us.
Oh well, we'll get right back on that horse on Tuesday.

No Comments on the Last Game??!
So where is the game run-down from the June 2 drubbing??
Those ambulance chasers (lawyers...) were, well, let's see - Mike says "very clean", we say "in the wrong league", and I say "trying to assure wins..." We were classy, as usual; putting in some good hitting; and taking some bad breaks in the field. Just remember, "the law is a ass" (Dickens) and "kill all the lawyers" (Shakespeare). Maybe we can make an exception for Brian...
Mike's main comment is, "I'm glad it's over... and glad we don't play them again."
Next week is a clean slate. Let's go out there, play hard, have fun, do our best, take it one game at a time... what else did Puck say? --
If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
(So maybe it wasn't really real -- one wise Puck is as good as another... !!)

Knights who say, "Knee!"
Greetings, Brewers!
Since many of you have noticed my lack of game participation, I thought I'd give you my latest injury update. My calf strain is more or less healed, but the overall lack of activity during rehab (coupled with a return to tennis too soon) has made my pre-existing "Chondromalacia Patella" issue even worse. I've had this knee issue for years, and it's only now occurring to me that I might need to be fitted for orthotics and follow through with some physical therapy. I've got some arthritis, and small bone spur, and "fraying" of soft tissues in my right knee, so I'm going to remain on the DL for at least another month. I asked the doctor if I could have my digital x-ray sent to the MB blog, but he wasn't into that idea -- something about patient confidentiality... So, for those of you interested, arthritis and frayed tissue look like a fuzzy glob on top of a normal bone. Pretty cool.
Looking forward to some quality rehab so that I might return with a vengeance next season! In the meantime, I anticipate that the rest of you will have a fantastic comeback game next Tuesday. Go Brewers!

Post Game Reaction
Team, what an AWESOME game everyone had tonight!!! Everything seemed to fire on all cylinders: offense, defense, baserunning... tonight is a game to be proud of and hopefully we'll be able to build off of it next week.
I don't know if anyone realizes it, but we won the game 19-5... OK, big deal you say. Let's not forget we ended the first inning tied @ 4-4. The 10 run rule does not take affect until the end of the 5th inning... meaning over the course of 4 innings we scored 15 runs while they only scored 1.
Good game everyone... and Molly... ignore the text message from Deb, you'll be welcome back next week with open arms!

Congrats, Brewers!
Nice work on yesterday's win! In your honor, I stayed home and made the icebox strawberry pie recipe that was on the back of my yogurt container. Later on, we will eat it in your honor.
Good Thing I'm not the Scorekeeper!
OK, so I couldn't keep track of who was winning or losing, but it felt like an even match with us playing a little bit better in the field than Lyngblomsten did. My apologies to Molly for leading her to believe we were losing. I think it may have been my need to focus on what to do at second base that kept me from actually noticing runs...
It's nice to play a team that also thinks good sportsmanship and having fun is the whole idea of this league.

Victory: 11-7!
Great game, Brewers! We held on to win 11-7, bringing our record up to 2 wins and 2 losses, a better winning percentage than the Twins have at the moment.
Highlights this week included...
... Dave going 4-for-4
... a succesfully turned ground-ball double play
... Baron increasing his AVG to .900
... Rachel hitting a double and a triple
... a fun opponent in Lyngblomsten
... Carrie's triumphant return to heckling the opponents
... Lori's triumphant return to playing
... Relatively few potentially life-threatening injuries
... (Please comment to add other highlights I might have missed.)
